Lekei's Thoughts
10th Summer Journal

10th Summer Journal

Dear Lekei, you have climbed high heights this summer testing the endurance of your spirit; you have worked very hard to obtain the goals you have set. Although you my have had some knocks and bruises throughout the courses and this summer, but you remained focused and determined to win. You have used wisdom, creativity, kindness and patience. This summer has not been the most relaxing one, but Lord willing you will have many more summers to enjoy. Your self-dependence has grown, however you have not forgotten the importance of teamwork. You have talked and have been talked to all in the name of unity. Only my God and I know the thoughts that pass through my head at night, however I am glad to share these thoughts with onlookers.

You have done a wonderful job, Lekei!!!

My list of CD 315 tips:

-Don’t wait, because it will be too late.

-Rest your arm and finger or you will get carpal tunnel. Try to prop your forearm on a cushion when typing.

-It would be nice to have a little bit later due time for MRP.

-Start early on your whatever your research project will be.

-It would be nice not to have any other assignments due during the final week.

-Remain positive, because you can make it!

LOL,

Lekei

9th Summer Journal

9th Summer Journal

Boy! I have butterflies in my stomach; I have been anticipating this moment all summer long and now it is here! I can say that I have enjoyed this stretch of the summer because I have gotten to know a group of my peers and my instructor better. I wonder if anyone else has realized how loose everyone appears over the Internet. No one is intimidated when it comes to asking question(s), and most of the time several peers will try to pitch in and help. And Mrs. McComas you have really been a great help to all of us in some way or another. I hope that this feeling of closeness continues throughout the rest of our semesters. I like this sense of bonding… I don’t know maybe it is just me feeling this way. My mom always said that I am tenderhearted; I get a little sentimental sometimes (gently smiling). Everyone in the family is doing fine, Ajnah’s head is feeling better. My birthday is on Tuesday August the 13th, 2002; I am thankful that I have lived this long (my mom has reminded that some people have not lived to enjoyed this age). Just as I was typing this journal (Sunday night) Ajnah stuck a pearl up her nose, but thank God Tony was able to get it out...Whew! Motherhood sure is action packed isn’t it?

Well this week’s assignments included: MRP Draft references, MRP Draft reflection, MRP Access, Peer Response Group, and my Online Journal. I have about completed all of the assignments this week just as I expected. I have been thinking of ways to alter my project, but I’ll mention that shortly. First I want to say that the luncheon we had was really nice; good atmosphere, good food, and good conversation a girl can’t ask for more. The next thing I want to say is that my reference page will not contain one reference I had planned on using form our previous assignments, but that is o.k. I have found some wonderful replacements. The sources that I am using are really interesting: once I began to read them I could not stop—I was drawn in to them. I am really going to love working with intercultural issues as a “ pro”. The book I found for .50 cents is excellent, it covers everything in just 6 chapters, but the content is extremely rich with quality information. Oh I found a article on Wilson Web database about East African (Swahili) culture it is good—better than the soaps! If anyone is interested in other cultures take the time LOOK IT UP and READ IT, it’s simply fascinating how a clothe (Leso) speaks volumes. The article is titled: Aesthetics of Communication: Texts on Textiles (Leso) from the East African Coast (Swahili), this is also listed in my reference section of my MRP. Well my reflection is still being put together, I have some idea of what I want to address in it, there is so much to choose from. Can the reflection be one the class as a whole plus the MRP or is it just to focus on the MRP? I have decided to add several more genres and business a page for Icate’s practice to my project. The business page will be very simple, it is just to add depth to her character. I will be working to complete this project day and night! P.S. I plan to talk about my decision with National Geographic’s people and PBS’s people in my reflection, so I am trying to save something to write about.

8th Summer Journal

8th Summer Journal

Finally, I minute of peace so that I can concentrate on completing what I am doing now. This week has been somewhat slower than the previous weeks. I almost feel kind of strange taking a breather. Well on Monday night Ajnah head her head in Jcpenny’s (boy I was sacred—this is my BABY), she had headaches a couple of days following the accident, the knot and bruise is still visible…let me take my mind of this now. Today is Tony’s birthday he went out to dinner, the cake was really tasty...yum! My birthday is on August 13th the big 2—6 is approaching me at lightening speed. My cousin Patty is here from New Jersey she is a hoot! She was telling me about a lot of things that people like myself that live outside of New York would not here about concerning September the 11th, this stuff was really shocking. I use this as a journal to discuss what is going on during the week so that when I read back over this stuff I will have some context of what point in time the journal had been written.

Alright this week’s assignments included: unsubscribe from the “pro” mailing list, MRP Draft with preface, Acknowledgements and about the author, Peer Response and the Online Journal. I have finished all of the required assignments in a timely fashion I am pleased. There isn’t much to talk about by way of this week’s “doings”, except that the MOO was pretty interesting, being able to talk to others about what we are doing in this class. One of the teachers asked me about my project, but my computer service kicked me off right in the middle of them asking so I never got to answer them. I hope that they did not think that I was being rude—some things you just cannot help. I am glad that Mrs. Mccomas has allowed us to be open about our feeling towards this project good or bad, this creates an atmosphere for growth. I hope that we actually said something useful to these teachers. If they read our blogs why did they not make comments? Well, I have tried to focus on my MRP this week but I did not get as far as I would have liked to. One thing that I have found to be of difficulty is to have music while my slides advance, I think this is not possible because I have been going to this website that deals with PP in detail I it wasn’t there, so I have come to a different conclusion about what I am going to do. I think the Topic that I have chosen to focus on has great potential outside of school I ran into the SLP that inspired me to look into this field farther (can you believe this I haven’t seen him in 7 years—now that I am doing this project I run into him) we began talking about all the stuff I am interested. He said that there is a big mover in this field towards intercultural and corporate issues, he was surprised that someone so young and new to this field was thinking in that direction. We really had a good conversation, he told me that I am really going to enjoy my career—I was glad to hear that! Oh Mrs. Mccomas will you tell Mrs. Chezik that Mike Carr said hello, thanks.

Something that I learned this week is that this class was shorter than I expected now hat I have all these other questions arising. Is there a format that we should use for our preface, ack. and ATA section?

LOL,

Lekei
